Cheryl Adler Iozzo

Cheryl Adler Iozzo has been an art educator in Greenwich, Connecticut, for over 30 years. In 1994, she began incorporating computer art into the district’s curriculum through teacher workshops, which led to postgraduate research on integrating technology into art education in 1999. By 2003, Iozzo took on the role of technology integration specialist for the district, collaborating with both classroom teachers and art educators to creatively incorporate technology into the curriculum. In 2021, Cheryl co-authored Art and Technology: Innovative K-12 Digital Lessons with Dr. Sheyda Ardalan, published by Teachers College Press.

Cheryl holds a BFA from UMass Lowell, an MAT from the Rhode Island School of Design, and both an Ed.M and Ed.D from Teachers College, Columbia University. Her research extends beyond technology in the arts to include dialoguing with students about art through Visual Conversations (2004). This pedagogical strategy fosters student engagement in inquiry-based aesthetic experiences when viewing works of art, without teacher interference. In 2014, Cheryl was named Greenwich Teacher of the Year and was a Semifinalist for Connecticut Teacher of the Year in 2015. She frequently presents on topics related to art, technology, and global competency at regional and national conferences.

As a practicing artist, often inspired by her students, Cheryl employs a range of art processes in her own work, including painting, photography, and digital art. Her current projects focus on integrating virtual reality painting using Google Tilt Brush/Open Brush to create immersive experiences.
